Year, 2000, life for us was at a close perfection.  Our six figure income enabled us to financially do and purchase just about anything we desired.

Life continued to go up the slope!  Then, in 2011, the lay-offs came and our finances went skidding down seemingly into a pit-like under ground.  We lost our full-time jobs and became part-timers.  By 2012, we went from over 6-figure income earners to falling below the Federal Poverty Level.  To help scale this, you only need to be at 133% to be considered for affordable health care.  We were down at 50%.

Wait, the best is yet to come, read on…

In May of 2012, unemployment rate in California was at 10.5%.  In numbers, these represented approximately 1,945,661.  We were not alone.

The biggest monthly bill we had been our mortgage payment, which was 250% times of what we were earning. 2011, with my husband’s unemployment status, he was awarded the monthly unemployment insurance for equal the amount of our mortgage.  This lasted for one year.  Alas, there was nothing left for living expenses.  The days ahead were looking murky.  We needed rescuing.

It is not my nature to worry, yet, the alternative we had been to tap into our retirement savings accounts.  I did thank God that we have an alternative.  I prayed for direction.

Matthew 6:33-34 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.  Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things.  Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Daily, I took care of business, be anxious for NOthing but in EVERYthing by PRAYER and SUPPLICATION with THANKSGIVING, I made my request to God.  Peace came and help was just about to come around.

Over $15,000 worth of mortgage payments, spread out to 9 months for FREE!*

May 2012.  My husband’s unemployment expired in February. After 3 months of ‘squeezing blood out of a turnip,’ there was no turnip left.  Meaning, we depleted our savings account to meet our mortgage and living expenses.

I rummaged through my contact list and one-by-one, calls were made to each one, for other helpful resources that may be available to us. Finally, a door opened when a trusted and former Real Estate colleague of ours un-veiled a wealth of information.

The availability of assistance for home owners with four programs which included assistance for the unemployed!  We found Keep Your Home California and we were rescued.

We applied online, followed by phone interviews and within three weeks, we were approved.  The process was all done online and telephone line!  KYHC paid our mortgage lender directly for the monthly loan amount including property tax for 9 months.  That figure came to $15,750 total.  What’s more is that we do not have to pay it back for as long as we stay in our home for 3 years.   $15,750 of free money indeed.

In May of 2015, KYHC send us a release letter from this “second loan” as free and cleared from our title.  Keep Your Home California is real.  In June, 2016, this heaven-sent organization has helped keep over 57,000 California home owners in their homes, as well as provide assistance to homeowners with financial transitions in their lives.

A REPEAT – Special Note: Currently with KYHC, the unemployment assistance program mortgage payment has now been extended to 18 months for qualified applicants up to $3,000 a month to a maximum of $54,000.
